Tideswell featured on BBC’s Village SOS series this week

The village of Tideswell featured in the BBC series “Village SOS” this week.

The programme followed the villagers as they developed the Taste Tideswell project with a £400,000 Big Lottery Fund grant, to improve the local economy by launching a cookery school and creating the Taste Tideswell food brand.

Village SOS is a partnership between the Big Lottery Fund and the BBC that is responding to the plight of rural villages
across the UK, and investing in new community enterprises that will revive their local areas. Taste Tideswell is one of six UK projects to receive a £400,000 Big Lottery Fund grant and to be featured on the BBC ONE Village SOS series, presented by Sarah Beeny.

The programme featured the highs and lows of launching an ambitious project that builds on existing local talent for producing high quality local food. The aim was to halt further shop closures in Tideswell’s high street and draw people back from shopping at large supermarkets to shopping locally. The dedicated Taste Tideswell volunteers developed a new food brand, created a  ommunity kitchen garden, run food education activities for local schools and launched the Tideswell School of Food which runs a wide variety of cookery courses in professional standard kitchen facilities.
