For the first time in more than a decade, the RHS is embarking on a new show with a style and content unlike any of its existing events. We are all very excited that Chatsworth has been chosen as the venue and as Candlelight Cottage is just a short drive away from Chatsworth, it is the ideal place to stay during your visit.
RHS Chatsworth Flower Show will run from 7-11 June 2017 and will be set within the 404.6ha (1000 acre) parkland of the Chatsworth Estate, home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. Adding to the show portfolio of the RHS, which already includes shows at Chelsea, Cardiff, Malvern, Hampton Court and Tatton Park in Cheshire, the Chatsworth event will seek to expand on current offerings and surprise and delight visitors with an immersive horticultural event experience. Its overarching theme is ‘Design Revolutionaries’ and will celebrate not only the creative genius of gardeners and garden designers from the past, especially Joseph Paxton who was once the estate’s gardener, but also the talent, ideas and conceptual thinking of today’s generation of designers.
Cutting-edge design will be the focus of the garden content, with many different fresh ideas being showcased. In addition there will be also be a focus on ‘Future Heritage’, which looks to incorporate local crafts and skills such as dry stone walling and use it in a contemporary way. A new category, FreeForm, will encourage sculptural designs and features without limits, creating fantastic spectacle for visitors to enjoy. Students and new designers will also have a chance to get their design skills noticed in a new competition ‘Gardening in a Changing World’, which will link with the Society’s new Science Strategy. The selected designs will be produced as a 3D model to be exhibited at the show, where an overall winner will be announced.
