5 STAR GOLD is the highest possible rating awarded by Visit England to self catering cottages and we are very proud to be at the top of our game. Every year Candlelight Cottage is assessed by an independent inspector sent by Visit England to ensure that we continue to meet the very high standards required for the coveted 5 STAR GOLD rating. The inspector looks at all aspects of the cottage; cleanliness, standard of décor, furnishings and equipment, along with our website, management and efficiency and everything has to be spot on.
Those of you, who have already visited Candlelight Cottage, will know that we aim for the highest levels in all we do and that cleanliness is particularly close to our hearts. (So many of us have arrived at a holiday cottage and found it dirty.) This will never happen to you at Candlelight Cottage, but you don’t need to take our word for it. For the fourteenth year running (that’s every year since we started business) the independent inspector has awarded us 100% for cleanliness.
Here are just a few of the things the inspector wrote in her report:
Cleanliness: “All areas are fresh smelling, thoroughly dusted and vacuumed and immaculately clean. No lapses from the highest possible standards were visible in this tidy cottage, which was cleaned, polished and buffed to perfection.”
Bedrooms: “Bedrooms are very practical and usable, appropriately sized and with plenty of storage. The pretty modern pastel shade used on master bedrooms walls is picked out in the curtains and bed accessories. The twin room is also attractively coordinated. Meticulous attention to detail ensures that décor and carpets remain immaculate.”
Kitchen: “The kitchen is large enough to provide comfortable work space, storage and room to dine. Slate floor tiles are kept well waxed to bring out the colours – this is a major feature of the room. Painted wooden furniture presents to much the same standard as last year. All the appliances expected of a high ranking property are provided including an Aga and a conventional cooker. Additional storage space and a freezer can be found in the cellar. Cupboard and drawers are immaculately neat and are fully stocked with high quality pans, utensils, tableware and enough equipment, utensils and ovenware to a keep a serious cook happy.”
Public Areas: “Thanks to frequent maintenance decorative standards throughout the cottage remain high. In the living room a stone fireplace and stove plus various items of art work relieve the simplicity of plain painted walls. The red colour in the decorative scheme is echoed in soft furnishings throughout this room including Roman blinds and the rug in front of the fire. There is no obvious wear or loss of condition to any element of this room.”
Bathroom: “A very classic bathroom with contemporary touches including the smart but neutral tiling, the heated towel rail and back lit mirror. All elements of this room are presented in pristine condition.”
Management and Efficiency: “The owners offer exceptional customer service, making the effort to be present not only on arrival, but also on departure. They live locally and their guests benefit from their knowledge of the area in terms of the range and organisation of information provided in-house. A proper record is kept of the statutory safety checks required by the Visit England scheme.”
We hope that the inspector’s words will inspire you to visit Candlelight Cottage. We work very hard to keep the cottage pristine and we hope that you will come and experience the warmth of our hospitality, the comfort of our cottage and the beauty of the Peak District for yourself.
