Candlelight Cottage is a semi detached cottage, situated in a rural village. We have tried to provide as much information as possible in this statement, but if you have any queries please do call. We look forward to welcoming you.


  • Bookings/enquiries can be made online, via e-mail or telephone.
  • The nearest bus stop is approximately 100 yards away. Contact Traveline on 0871 200 22 33 for timetable details.
  • The nearest train stations are in Buxton, Chesterfield and Sheffield. There are taxis at the stations.
  • If you require this information in a different format, please contact us via our website, e-mail, or telephone.
  • Delivery of provisions can be arranged by using one of the large supermarket chains and local shops offer a delivery service.
  • A shop- mobility scheme operates in Chesterfield.
  • Enquiries about hire of equipment can be made at Red Cross, Matlock 01629 582171
  • It should be noted that the property may not suitable for guests who are wheelchair users due to the changes in levels both on the inside and outside of the cottage.
  • With the safety of guests in mind it is suggested that the cottage may only be suitable for guests who have a visual, hearing or mobility impairment if they are accompanied. Regrettably, at the moment we only have standard smoke detectors and are therefore not able to offer the higher level of warning systems (eg flashing or vibrating alarms) on which a guest with such impairments would rely if travelling alone.

Arrival and car parking facilities

  • There is car parking on the service road directly in front of the cottage.
  • The car parking area is flat tarmac.
  • The entrance to the cottage at the front has one small step 5cm high.
  • The front of the cottage is lit by an outside light operated from inside the property. To the rear, there is an outside light with a movement sensor.
  • The keys for the cottage will be handed over by the owners, who will personally welcome you to the cottage, explain how everything works and answer any questions you may have.
  • Please contact the owners to make arrival and departure arrangements. Help can be offered with luggage.

General information

  • The front door is 83cm wide and the keyhole is 95cm high.
  • The ceilings are quite low as it is an old cottage; please take care in certain parts of the house. These will be pointed out to you on arrival.
  • The porch opens into the lounge with the kitchen accessed through the far left hand corner. The back door leads out from the kitchen into the garden. Stairs lead from the kitchen to the first floor double bedroom, twin bedroom and bathroom. The stairs are 19cm high, 78cm wide and 25cm deep. The first 4 stairs spiral.
  • Further stairs lead down from the kitchen to the utility room.
  • There is gas central heating throughout. There is an additional coal effect gas stove in the lounge and radiators in other rooms. In the kitchen, there is a gas fired AGA providing heating and additional cooking facilities.
  • All rooms are carpeted unless otherwise stated.


  • Door width between the lounge and the kitchen is 72cm.
  • There are two leather settees and one arm chair.
  • Teletext available on TV with remote control. DVD player, portable CD player with radio and tape are also provided.
  • Large stone fireplace with coal effect gas fire.
  • CO alarm fitted (audible only).


  • There is a step down into the kitchen 12cm high.
  • The worktop height is standard, approximately 90cm.
  • Oven door is drop down and hob above is halogen at standard height.
  • Sink is standard height with cupboards underneath.
  • Standard size front loading washing machine and dishwasher are provided.
  • Lighting is spotlight bulbs on ceiling, with under unit lighting.
  • Good contrast between floor, cupboards and other surfaces.
  • Fridge and microwave available.
  • Floor is tiled.
  • Heat alarm and CO alarm fitted (audible only)

Utility room

  • 10 steps lead down from kitchen to utility room. STEPS VARY IN SIZE. Width between 63cm and 89cm. Height between 10cm and 39cm

  • Chest of drawers is 92cm high. Bedside tables are 45cm high.
  • Distance between beds 35cm.
  • Distance from end of beds to window 93cm.
  • Distance from LH bed to wall 74cm, RH bed is against a wall
  • Additional bed boards provided.


  • Door width 70 cm
  • Bath: Non slip mat provided for bath or shower. The shower is in a separate clear glass shower cubicle and is thermostatically controlled. There are no grab rails or balance aids in either the bath or shower
  • The taps are not thermostatically controlled and are of a standard type – this applies also to the basin taps
  • Bath height is 58cm
  • Toilet seat height 44cm and is only accessible from the front
  • Flooring is linoleum with a bath mat
  • Floor, walls and furniture all white.
  • Under the wash basin is a chrome stand on which to place items
  • All Bathroom sanitary ware is white against white wall tiles
  • There is a heated towel rail.

Grounds and gardens

  • Small gravelled patio area with table, chairs and BBQ to the rear of the property.
  • Level gravelled driveway to the side of the property, leads to garden at rear, which is accessed via a gate and two steps down.
